Many of us spend our younger years building a stronger engine—more strength, more speed, more power. But as we get older, the challenge changes. What if the goal isn't to become weaker or stop training? What if the goal is to keep the strength you've built while becoming more efficient? Maybe it's time to create your own GM Yaris.
A silly image made me laugh today.
A GM Pickup Truck.
A Toyota Yaris.
And somehow...
a GM Yaris.
The more I thought about it, the more it reminded me of the body.
When we're younger, many of us focus on building a bigger engine.
More strength.
More power.
More speed.
More performance.
Like a GM Pickup Truck.
And honestly?
There's nothing wrong with that.
Strength is important.
Muscle is important.
Being capable is important.
A strong engine can take you far.
As we move into our 40s and beyond, life often becomes less about maximum output and more about sustainability.
Recovery matters more.
Sleep matters more
Energy becomes more valuable.
The body starts asking:
"How efficiently can you use what you already have?"
A Toyota Yaris doesn't have the biggest engine.
But it has something else.
Efficiency.
It gets more mileage from the same fuel.
Less waste.
Less unnecessary effort.
More distance.
More sustainability.
And that matters.
Sometimes health and fitness messages make it sound like we need to choose.
Strength or recovery.
Power or efficiency.
Performance or longevity.
But what if that's the wrong question?
What if we need both?
What if the goal isn't becoming a GM Pickup Truck forever?
And it's not becoming a Toyota Yaris either?
Imagine combining both.
The strength.
The capability.
The power.
And adding:
Better recovery.
Better energy management.
More efficient movement.
Less wasted effort.
More longevity.
Not Truck.
Not Yaris.
GM Yaris.
A strong engine used wisely.
The body doesn't always need more effort.
Sometimes it needs a different strategy.
Sometimes you need Truck Mode.
Sometimes you need Yaris Mode.
The skill is knowing when to shift.
Because getting stuck in one strategy is often what creates problems.
The same is true for movement.
The same is true for posture.
And maybe the same is true for life.
What if after 40 we don't settle?
What if we shift?
Keep the strength.
Add efficiency.
Create your own GM Yaris.
And keep doing what you love for a very long time.
