When it comes to posture, we often hear the same message:
Anterior Pelvic Tilt (APT) is bad.
Posterior Pelvic Tilt (PPT) is bad.
Neutral is good.
The solution?
Find neutral and stay there.
But have you ever wondered if that makes sense?
Because the human body was never designed to stay in one position.
Think about everything you do during the day.
・Walking.
・Running.
・Climbing stairs.
・Picking up your child.
・Reaching overhead.
・Jumping.
・Breathing.
Every one of these activities requires your body to constantly shift and adapt.
・Your pelvis moves.
・Your ribs move.
・Your spine moves.
・Your weight shifts.
Movement isn't a mistake.
Movement is the design.
APT often gets blamed for everything.
・Poor posture.
・Back pain.
・Weak core.
But APT is simply one position.
In fact, there are times when moving into APT can be useful.
・Reaching.
・Accelerating.
・Generating power.
・Moving forward.
The position itself isn't the enemy.
The same goes for PPT.
Many people are told to avoid it.
Yet your body naturally moves into PPT when:
Sitting down
Resting
Rolling
Certain breathing patterns
Many daily activities
Again, the position isn't necessarily the problem.
Before anyone gets worried...
I'm not saying neutral is bad.
Neutral is useful.
It's often a comfortable reference point.
But neutral isn't a place your body was meant to live in all day.
It's simply another option.
BThe real problem may not be the position.
The real problem may be:
Getting stuck there.
Getting stuck in APT.
Getting stuck in PPT.
Even getting stuck in "perfect posture."
Because once we lose movement options, we lose adaptability.
And adaptability is one of the hallmarks of a healthy body.
What if instead of asking:
"Am I in the right position?"
We asked:
"Can I move freely between positions?"
Can I shift when needed?
Can I adapt?
Can I return comfortably?
Can I explore different ways of moving?
Because life doesn't happen in one position.
Life requires options.
APT isn't bad.
PPT isn't bad.
Neutral isn't bad.
The goal isn't finding the perfect position.
The goal is moving around.
Because the problem isn't the position.
It's getting stuck there.
And maybe one of the best signs of a healthy body isn't perfect posture...
It's having the freedom to move.
